Time for another photography scavenger hunt assignment. Here are the topics for Scavenger Hunt #4:

  1. Green
  2. Easter
  3. Music
  4. Coffee or Tea
  5. Glass
  6. Upside-Down
  7. Breakfast

You can choose to photograph as many of the seven topics as you like, but please submit only ONE photo per topic. I suggest that you jot these topics down and carry the list with you when you’re out and about. It’s a good idea to have a camera with you at all times because you just never know when great photo-ops will pop up!

You have a full THREE WEEKS to complete this assignment. Tell a friend – the more, the merrier!

The rules are quite simple:

  • Your photos have to be NEW, as in taken between now and Sunday evening, March 31 – NOT something you took last year, last week or even yesterday for that matter. New. Fresh. Now. You have 3 weeks to complete this assignment, so no digging old photos out of your hard drive, ya hear? The idea is to take your camera out with the seven topics in mind and come up with the most interesting and creative shots that you possibly can.
  • You may choose any or all of the seven topics to photograph, but please submit only ONE photo of each of your chosen topics.
  • Please label each photo with the name of the topic above to which it pertains. You can do full captions, but the caption should at the minimum include the name of the topic.

That’s it. If you’re in, start taking your photos now. Sometime between now and Sunday evening, March 31, email your photos to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and put “SCAVENGER HUNT #4” in the subject line. The results of this assignment will be posted in the blog on Tuesday, April 2.

As always with these assignments, please keep in mind that you don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to play along. DSLR, point-and-shoot, camera phone… it doesn’t matter. These photography assignments are just for fun and to help you become a better photographer by training your eye to see specific things or by practicing certain techniques. There’s no critique involved, no judges, no winners, no prizes… just really awesome photos with whatever camera you have available.

Got it? Let me know if you have questions about this assignment. If not, get out there and get busy! Remember… BE CREATIVE, use good composition techniques, and, most of all, HAVE FUN!

Whew! At LAST we’ve reached the final episode of this alphabet assignment series. Your assignment for this final week is to take and submit photos that represent the letter X, Y and/or Z in some way.

I would PREFER that the photos you submit be taken during the week of the assignment, but that’s not a RULE so feel free to dig stuff out of your hard drive if absolutely necessary. If it might not be clear to the average person just HOW your photos represent the letters X, Y and/or Z, please provide a caption. Better yet, provide a caption anyway. Bonus (but entirely imaginary) style points will be awarded for alliterative and/or exceptionally clever captions. Also, if you submit a photo or photos of identifiable people, please make sure that those people are ok with having their photo posted on the blog.

The challenge here is to be CREATIVE in your photography. Don’t send me a photograph of a yak simply because “yak” starts with “y.” Try to be creative and/or clever about it and remember to use good photography composition techniques. This isn’t JUST about participating in an assignment, it’s about improving your photography.

Your X/Y/Z photos will be due on Sunday, November 25 and the results will be posted on MONDAY, November 26 (PLEASE NOTE the sudden and unexplained change in the normal schedule). Email your photos to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and please limit your weekly submissions to 7 (SEVEN) photos. Please send your photos to me as LARGE as possible.

As always with my assignments, keep in mind that you don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to play along. DSLR, point-and-shoot, camera phone… it doesn’t matter. My photography assignments are just for fun and to help you become a better photographer by training your eye to see specific things or by practicing certain techniques. There’s no critique involved, no judges, no winners, no prizes… just really cool and creative photos with whatever camera you have available.

Any questions? OK then, get busy with those X, Y and/or Z photos!

Instead of examples from my own archives this week, take a look at what a few very clever folks came up with for last year’s X/Y/Z assignment!

A huge THANKS to all of the participants who submitted their awesome U and V photos! We’re always happy to have new participants, so even if you missed out on any of the previous rounds, please feel free to jump in for the last two weeks of the assignment! We’re all having a lot of fun with this!

Thumbnails for a few of the submitted photos can be found below. You can view a larger version of each photo by clicking on a thumbnail, or scroll all the way down and click on the “View photos at SmugMug” link to view all of the images submitted for the U/V assignment. Well, well, well… we’re up to the letter W (and almost done with the alphabet)! Your assignment this week is to take and submit photos that represent the letter W in some way.

I would PREFER that the photos you submit be taken during the week of the assignment, but that’s not a RULE so feel free to “shoot ahead” or dig stuff out of your hard drive if absolutely necessary. If it might not be clear to the average person just HOW your photos represent the letter W, please provide a caption.

Don’t send me a photograph of a wall simply because “wall” starts with “w.” Try to be creative and/or clever about it and remember to use good photography composition techniques. This isn’t JUST about participating in an assignment, it’s about improving your photography.

Your W photos will be due on Sunday, November 18 and the results will be posted on Tuesday, November 20.

OK then, get busy with those W photos!
