Are you ready for another photography assignment? Let’s do HOLIDAYS again. Whatever holiday or holidays you happen to celebrate this month, that’s what this assignment is about.

There are just two rules for the assignment:

  1. Any holiday photo taken during the month of December, 2011 is eligible for the assignment. The idea is to take your camera out with the theme in mind and come up with the most interesting, creative HOLIDAY shots that you can.
  2. Each photo you submit must be related to a December holiday of your choice in some prominent way.

That’s it. If you’re in, start taking your HOLIDAY images now. Sometime between now and Sunday evening, January 1, 2012, email up to SEVEN of your favorites to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and put the word “HOLIDAY” in the subject line. Please send your photos to me as large as possible and feel free to include captions if you wish. The results will be posted in the blog on Tuesday, January 3.

As always with these photography assignments, please keep in mind that you don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to play along. DSLR, point-and-shoot, camera phone… it doesn’t matter. These photography assignments are just for fun and to help you become a better photographer by training your eye to see specific things or by practicing certain techniques. There’s no critique involved, no judges, no winners, no prizes… just HOLIDAY photos with whatever camera you have available.

Again, your challenge is to BE CREATIVE with your holiday photography, but most of all, HAVE FUN!

Are you ready for the “Q” results?

As I mentioned, this one was a challenge. But my wonderful participants hung in there and managed to come up with quite an awesome array of photos. AND I got two new participants out of the deal! :)

Thumbnails for a few of the submitted photos can be found below. You can view a larger version of each photo by clicking on its thumbnail. To view all of the photos submitted for the “Q” assignment, click on the “View photos at SmugMug” link below the thumbnails. Thanks to the participants for these superb “Q” photos. Enjoy!

I am happy to report that Q is history. One of the participants described the Q assignment as “grueling” and I would have to agree on that point. So while I work on getting those Q submissions ready for tomorrow’s post, you all can move on to R.

Your assignment this week is to take and submit images that represent the letter R in some way. I would PREFER that the photos you submit be taken during this week, but that’s not a rule as it has been with past photography assignments.

The challenge is to be CREATIVE in your photography and in selecting your subjects. Try to be creative and/or clever about photographing even the most ordinary of subjects and remember to use good photography composition techniques. This isn’t JUST about participating in an assignment, it’s about improving your photography.

If it might not be clear to the average person just HOW your photo represents the letter R, please provide a caption. Better yet, include a caption regardless. Bonus (but imaginary) style points will be awarded for alliterative captions, as I am a sucker for alliteration. Also, if you submit photos of identifiable people, please make sure that they know what’s up and that they are ok with having their photo posted on the blog.

Your R photos are due by Sunday evening, July 24 and the results will be posted in the blog on Tuesday, July 26. Email your photos to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and please limit your submissions to 7 (SEVEN) photos.

As always with my assignments, please keep in mind that you don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to play along. DSLR, point-and-shoot, camera phone… it doesn’t matter – these photography assignments are just for fun and to help you become a better photographer by training your eye to see specific things or by practicing certain techniques. There’s no critique involved, no judges, no winners, no prizes… just photos related to the topic of the week taken with whatever camera you have available. As photographer Chase Jarvis has pointed out, “The best camera is the one you have with you.”

Are you ready? OK, then… let’s get busy with those R photos!

So we’re up to the letter Q now. I don’t know about you, but I have not particularly been looking forward to this one. Maybe it won’t be as hard as I’m afraid it might be. Knowing how creative and clever my participants are, I think they’ll all prove me wrong. :)

You know the drill… your assignment this week is to take and submit images that represent the letter Q in some way.

Also, if you submit photos of identifiable people, please make sure that they know what’s up and that they are ok with having the9ir photo posted on the blog.

Your Q photos are due by Sunday evening, July 17 (Mountain Time, GMT -7:00) and the results will be posted in the blog on Tuesday, July 19. Email your photos to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and please limit your submissions to 7 (SEVEN) photos.

And now we’re up to the letter P. I’ve been looking forward to this letter because it seems like half of the stuff I see on a daily basis starts with the letter P. Go figure.

Your assignment this week is to take and submit images that represent the letter P in some way. I would PREFER that the photos you submit be taken during this week, but that’s not a rule as it has been with past photography assignments.

The “N” photos are in!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I found “N” to be one of the more difficult letters to photograph. Since  participation is down significantly this week, maybe other folks found it difficult as well, or maybe we can chalk it up to summertime busy-ness. Anyway, much thanks to my faithful core of participants (you know who you are!) for hanging in there with me week after week. If you haven’t submitted photos in a while (don’t make me name names!), come on back! Or if you have yet to participate in the alphabet assignment, feel free to jump in anytime!

Now, on to the “N” results. Thumbnails for a few of the submitted photos can be found below. You can view a larger version of each photo by clicking on its thumbnail. To view all of the photos submitted for the “N” assignment, click on the “View photos at SmugMug” link below the thumbnails. To get the full effect of these wonderful photos, I recommend viewing the SmugMug gallery as a slideshow by clicking on the Slideshow button at the upper right corner.

Thanks to the participants for these nifty “N” photos! “N”joy!
