This month’s calendar wallpaper is something just a bit different from my usual offerings. OK, it’s a lot different, as in completely different. Read on…

I recently discovered a feature in the Picasa photo editing program of which I was not previously aware. Within the Collage feature, the “Multiple Exposure” option superimposes selected photos on top of each other into one big amalgamation of photo-ness. I can’t think of too many practical applications of this feature, but I nevertheless decided to play with it using photos from the recent ORANGE photography assignment. I selected just one orange photo from each of the participants, clicked the Create Collage button and let Picasa work its magic. I find the resulting image to be a veritable work of abstract art. I call it “1 Orange Each.”

If you’re not sure how to set a photo as your desktop background, follow the instructions HERE.

For 1280 x 856 click HERE.
For 1366 x 768 click HERE.

If you need a different size for your background, email me at 39DegN@gmail.com and let me know what size you need. If you don’t know what size you need, click HERE.

Kudos to my October photography assignment participants for collectively producing such a wonderful work of art!!

Enjoy!

I found this assignment to be a wee bit more challenging that some of the other assignments involving colors, but everyone did a really incredible job of it. It’s amazing to see how much oranginess is out there and just how many variations of the color orange there are! A warm welcome to new participants Annet, Bryan, Maud and Mindy.

As usual, I’ll post one photo from each participant here and the rest of the photos will be in a gallery that I’ll give you the link to in a minute. First, take a look at these:

It’s weekend photography assignment time again. Since the color themes seem to be quite popular, let’s give the color ORANGE a whirl this time around.

The rules for the assignment are still quite simple:

  1. Your photos have to be NEW, as in taken between now and MONDAY evening, October 25 – NOT something you took last year, last week or even yesterday for that matter. New. Fresh. Now. The idea is to take your camera out with the theme in mind and come up with the most interesting ORANGE shots you can.
  2. The photos you submit must feature the color ORANGE in some prominent way.

That’s it. If you’re in, start taking your ORANGE pics now. Sometime between now and MONDAY evening, October 25, email up to FIVE of your favorites to me at 39DegN@gmail.com and put the word “ORANGE” in the subject line. Please send your photos to me as large as possible and if I don’t already know your name, be sure to include it so I can give you credit. Feel free to include captions if you wish. The results will be posted in the blog on Tuesday, October 26.

As always with these assignments, please keep in mind that you don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to play along. DSLR, point-and-shoot, camera phone… it doesn’t matter. My weekend photography assignments are just for fun and to help you become a better photographer by training your eye to see specific things or by practicing certain techniques. There’s no critique involved, no judges, no winners, no prizes… just photos of ORANGINESS with whatever camera you have available.

Meanwhile, here are some ORANGE photos that I dredged out of my archives so they totally don’t count:

Got the idea? OK, now get out there and shoot some orange stuff!

Colorado’s aspen trees are famous for blanketing vast hillsides with swaths of yellow and gold this time of year, but occasionally just a wee bit of orange peeks through.
